Life Jacket

I didn’t fall in love when he kissed me – no. I fell in love with his sleepy laugh. For the way his face felt against mine. I fell for his breathing – which left a cool breeze on my body. For the way he held me close like I was the only life jacket left on a sinking boat.

But you bet I kissed him goodbye this time. Because by now I know the difference from leaving a room and leaving a life.

And now I’m just cold.

I shouldn’t fall in love so quickly.
